Comment on articles; it will help us make it through another day of writing

Every writer knows writing is lonely work — it’s such a cliché I hesitate to even put it into words. We take these ideas in our heads and somehow organize them, telling stories, describing our experiences, or giving instructions. Then we release these precious words into the wild and… get tons of rejection.

Medium is unique because we can put our words carefully into the wild, with a guaranteed publishing rate. You may not get published in a Medium publication, but heck, your writing is out there for people to find. For a new baby writer like me, being released on Medium is a pretty heady experience.

Whether or not people read our work is a whole other subject. Building a reader base can be tough. If you want help with creating an audience, follow Shaunta Grimes, Tom Kuegler, or Shannon Ashley. These writers (and many more) have all written many helpful articles about building an audience.

But back to our writing. Here it sits on Medium, our very blood and brains organized into words and displayed for all to see. Some people will read, some will clap, and a very few will comment. Even a successful article doesn’t get a lot of comments, although, of course, the more well-known writers generate more comments. To me, reads and claps are a validation…
